Mr Laurence A Goldberg FRPharmS

Laurence Goldberg is an independent pharmaceutical consultant and is currently Editorial Consultant for Hospital Pharmacy Europe.

He is a former Non- executive Director of the National Patient Safety Agency

Before establishing his consultancy, he worked as a hospital pharmacist for over 30 years. He also held a number of part-time academic posts in pharmacy practice, both in the UK and USA.

He co-founded the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association and was a member of the General Committee of the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy and the Council of The Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, UK.

Over the years, he organised clinical pharmacy training courses in a number of European countries including Germany, Holland, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. In addition he has organised and chaired many pharmacy advisory board meetings and expert panels for the pharmaceutical industry.

He interests are in medication error reduction and patient and staff safety and is currently working in the areas of pharmacy automation, final product checking technology for aseptically prepared injections and medication error reduction strategies. He has a particular interest in pharmacy dispensing/distribution robots and robots for compounding ready to administer injections. He has worked with the major players in these fields.

He was designated a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1989 and has won several awards for his work in pharmacy. He received the UKCPA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015. He has been an invited speaker at many international conferences over the past 30 years, speaking mainly on subjects connected with patient safety, clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutical automation and aseptic services. He has over 50 scientific papers to his name, many of them as sole author.
