Chief Executive Officer, Biopharma Stability Testing Laboratory (BSTL)
Graduating with a first degree in Chemistry from Loughborough University in 1992 Alan went on to gain a doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Derby in 1995.
Postdoctoral research fellowships in antibiotic resistance at Birmingham University and with Hoffman-La Roche, Basal Switzerland followed and up until 2008 Alan worked as a Senior Scientist for the MOD, latterly QinetiQ. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at Derby University in 2008.
Alan co-founded BSTL in 2012 with Professor Michael Allwood, based at BioCity Nottingham. BSTL specialises in performing contract research and testing in parenteral drug stability as well as medical device research.
BSTL won a prestigious tender to supply testing services to the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) in 2016 and in 2017 BSTL recently launched a new service for cytotoxic monitoring for pharmacy and ward in response to increased interest in environmental monitoring for hazardous drugs within a hospital setting.
Alan has extensive research expertise in the development and use of closed system transfer systems (CSTDs) and in Sept 2016 the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) adopted a test protocol developed by Alan and the HSL.
